This is in part because of the competitiveness of the industry, as manufacturers continue making units more affordable by increasing their efficiency and improving their components.

Despite this, most air conditioners are powered by an electric motor and pump combination. These components circulate refrigerant fluid through the unit. The refrigerant fluid that circulates through unit is what allows the heat exchanging process in the air-conditioning system to function. This fluid is pumped at high pressure through the air-conditioning system to an evaporator, here it changes into a gas state taking the heat from the fluid.
